This 8 3/4" resin statue of Deus Arimanios (Ahriman), Prince of this World, is richly detailed with symbols of strength and knowledge. Featuring a lion head, wings, and globe, alongside a key, scroll, and serpent, it embodies wisdom and power. The serpent encircles his body, cresting at the third eye, while astrological signs of Capricorn and Cancer adorn his thighs. Finished in a striking red-gray, this statue honors the deity central to the Roman Mithras cult, symbolizing universal wisdom and authority.
The Hellenistic, Persian & Roman syncretic deity honored in the Cult of Mithras: AHRIMAN, the Lord of Darkness & Adversary in its' manifestation as the Gate keeper and Lord of this World for which the initiate must find identification and self-mastery to ascend to heights of Apotheosis. This statue was crafted after the Aion-Arimanios (Deus = Deity) found in numerous Mithraic temples and altars.
8.5" Red and Black resin.
The Roman Empire's cult of Mithra assimilated many of the Persian pantheon including Ahriman often interchangeable to some degree with Zurvan or Aion. "The God Ahriman", R.C. Zaehner explained the Mithra-cult and the later identification with Ahriman as "The Prince of this world". He stands upon the earth, meaning Mastery of the Earth, his legs bear the Zodiac signs, his wings give mastery of the element Air, his key is to Hades or Knowledge, the left hand is the scroll of universal wisdom, the serpent represents immortality and knowledge. The Deo Aremanios inscription on many of the Lion-headed Mithraic statues offers clues to the extent of the Ahrimanian cultists in Mithraic temples in the Roman Empire. Ahriman is the Prince of this World and is given full description and historical treatment in "DRAUGA - Ahrimanian Yatuk Dinoih" by Michael W. Ford.
